Time permitting; you will be able to spend time in the Old City Market, an open air market in four buildings. The market, dating back to 1841 originally sold foodstuffs, including meat, fish and fresh produce grown locally. Today, more than 100 vendors sell everything from local foods to souvenirs. The kitsch factor runs high--serious shoppers may have better luck on King Street. It's a lively spot, often teeming with tourists and somewhat difficult to navigate at peak hours. The most celebrated residents are the ladies who weave and sell sweet-grass baskets. The craft of basket-weaving, passed down from West African slaves, is considered one of Charleston's most vibrant traditions.

From there you will board the bus for a short ride to Charleston Maritime Center where you will board the Carolina Belle, a USCG certified vessel. Your licensed captain narrates a relaxing, and insightful tour of the harbor. This tour is rated one of the best ways to discover the Holy City and view its famous Harbor!
Some of the sights you'll see are:

  • Fort Sumter: One of Charleston's most popular landmarks, where the first shots of the Civil War were fired
  • Confederate and Union army Forts Moultrie and Johnson
  • USS Yorktown: the famous World War II "Fighting Lady"
  • St. Michael's Episcopal Church: A surviver of both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, whose steeple was painted black so as not to be an easy target
  • Stately homes on the Battery: Symbols of Southern elegance and perseverance
  • Cooper River Bridges, including the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge: A state of the art span that accommodates the largest ships in the world
  • Dolphins skimming the surface of the water and pelicans diving for food

A deli-style box lunch (included) will be served during the tour aboard the Carolina Belle. The lunch includes a sandwich of turkey or ham on artisan breads (we get a delivery of sandwiches, and they are distributed on a first-come first-served basis), gourmet chips, a fresh fruit cup, and a fresh baked cookie. We also provide you with a fountain drink. A vegetarian option is also available.

The next stop on your exciting adventure is a stop at Boone Hall Plantation, one of the South Carolina's greatest treasures. Boone Hall is also one of America's oldest working, living plantations, continuously growing and producing crops for over 320 years. You'll be able to explore the historic brick slave cabins, a smoke house, and a cotton gin. Costumed hostesses will greet you at the mansion and provide guided tours of the first floor. You'll see the butterfly garden and take pleasure in viewing antique roses, camellias and other native South Carolina plants. There is also a unique gift shop with plantation treasures.
